If you’ve found an archaeological object in County Clare, you should contact Clare Museum as soon as possible. Leave the object where you found it unless it appears to be in danger of destruction or theft.
Archaeological objects belong to the State, and should be reported to either Clare Museum, another designated local museum, or the National Museum of Ireland, within 96 hours of being found. Failure to report an archaeological find can result in penalties. Finder’s rewards may be paid for some finds.
Archaeological objects usually include those found under or on the ground. They can date from any period of time, but usually before 1700. Contact the Museum to discuss whether the object you have found is an archaeological object.
