Book of Common Prayer, very small, black hard backed cover, inscribed on fly-page:

‘John Bindon Scott, Cahiracon, 7th January 1838’.

The Scotts owned many properties including Knappogue Castle. There are articles about a land squabble between several Scotts.

The Scott family of Cahiracon House were considered to be good landlords by local people, even down to this day. The Scotts left Ireland in 1845 and settled in Brugge Belgium. Some of the family stayed in Belgium and some eventually moved to England, including the donor’s great grandmother. She married an Englishman. They lived in South Africa and the USA before moving to British Columbia Canada which is where this Book of Common Prayer was mailed to Clare Museum from.
