Buckle, copper alloy, double loop, rectangular with rounded edges
Buckle, copper alloy, rectangular double loop buckle with rounded edges, central pin and frame cast in one piece, tongue absent. About 2mm in from the outer edge of the frame is a “step” creating extra depth in the inner part of the frame, the shape of the step follows the shape of the outer edge of the frame.
One of several medieval buckles put up for sale on an online auction site by a Clare antique dealer. Reported by the National Museum of Ireland and Clare Museum subsequently took possession of them on the assumption they are of Clare origin.
