Buckle, fragment, half of trapezium shaped double loop copper alloy buckle, the frame and pin were cast in one piece, the entire tongue still adheres to the pin. Decoration consists of two knops on the outer corners of the frame and a central lobe and an incised line running vertically close to outer edge and a horizontal incised line running across width of lobe.
One of several medieval buckles put up for sale on an online auction site by a Clare antique dealer. Reported by the National Museum of Ireland and Clare Museum subsequently took possession of them on the assumption they are of Clare origin.
