Buckle

Buckle, frame of a possibly pewter buckle with black varnish, trapezium shaped double loop, central pin and tongue missing

*

Buckle, frame of a possibly pewter buckle with black varnish, trapezium shaped double loop, central pin and tongue missing, the pin would have been held in a socket between the centres of the two long sides of the frame. The frame curves in an arc on one side of the central pin bar at one end of the frame, the opposite side of the frame does not exhibit this feature but it is possible that it has become flattened as it appears somewhat out of shape.

One of several medieval buckles put up for sale on an online auction site by a Clare antique dealer. Reported by the National Museum of Ireland and Clare Museum subsequently took possession of them on the assumption they are of Clare origin.
