Clare Senior Hurling Championship Medal, 1936.

Clare county championship medal won by John Joe Doyle with Newmarket-on-Fergus in 1936; reverse is silver and inscribed, obverse, rose gold centre with crest, and blue enamel edging.

John Joe Doyle was captain of the Clare team beaten in the 1932 All Ireland Hurling Final.

John Joe ‘Goggles’ Doyle wore spectacles while playing hurling. In order to protect them during a game, he made his own protective ‘goggles’ from bicycle spokes, medical bandages and elastic, earning him the nickname by which he was known.
