Emigrant Letter from Jimmy Guerin, 1935.


Emigrant letter, handwritten in ink, and dated 8th September, 1935, written by Jimmy Guerin to his mother in Kilnamona, County Clare, from 320 Kensal Road, London, W10. It was his first letter home following his emigration and mentions a Nancy Kelly from Ruan who was on her way to a convent in England.

Found in the family home in Kilnamona in 1999. Jimmy Guerin returned to Ireland from UK in 1940 and had appeared in a photograph taken by the famous American photographer in Dorothea Lange, before he emigrated. Jimmy, who died in 2000, was an uncle of the donor.
