Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Nursing Service Medal, silver, oval ring with cross in centre. Obverse: Central cross, arms have splayed terminals, top arm surmounted by royal crown, letter A occurs in centre of cross. Legend on surrounding oval ring QUEEN ALEXANDRA’S IMPERIAL NURSING SERVICE. Obverse: Blank. Ribbon attached to loop from top of medal, consists of 9 bands of colour as follows: red (v. narrow), white, red, navy, red (thickest, central), navy, red, white, and red (v. narrow). Pin attached to top reverse side of ribbon.

The objects were originally awarded to the donor’s aunt, Josephine Canny of Mountshannon, Co. Clare, who was a nurse in the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service.
