Medal, ‘The Emergency’, 1939-1946, with ribbon, awarded to John Minihan.

Belonged to John Minihan, who during the Irish War of Independence was a Staff Commandant, Mid-Clare Brigade IRA, and Intelligence Officer.

Later he was Quarter Master and Director of Special Service, with the Anti-Treaty IRA during the Irish Civil War.

The Minihan family owned the Station Bar, adjacent to Corofin Railway Station, when it closed.

This medal was for voluntary service in the Local Defence Force during ‘The Emergency’ (1939-1946).
