Pin, gold coloured metal with enamel inlay, circular, Irish War Hospital Supply Depot
Pin, gold coloured metal with enamel inlay, circular, pin at back, Irish War Hospital Supply Depot. Front: All sections and motifs in coloured enamel with gold coloured metal outline, central red cross on dark green shamrock inside white circle surrounded by dark green ring with the legend – Irish War Hospital Supply Depot. Back: Gold coloured metal with embedded safetly pin device.
The Irish War Supply Depot was located at 40 Merrion Square, Dublin and had eight sub-depots in the three southern provinces. The First World War medical supply organisation provided the war effort with vital hospital equipment including splints, crutches and surgical supplies.
Grania Weir, and O’Brien of Dromoland Castle, found this medal in the castle many years ago and it probably belonged to her ancestors who supported the war effort during the Great War.
