Railway Cup medal 1931 won by John Joe Doyle.

John Joe ‘Goggles’ Doyle (1906-2000) played left corner back on the Clare Senior Hurling team from 1916-1938 and was captain of the Clare team that was beaten by Kilkenny in the 1932 All-Ireland Hurling Final.

Doyle won six County Championships with his club Newmarket-on-Fergus. He won four Railway Cup Medals for Munster in Hurling between 1929 and 1934. The Railway Cup was an inter-provincial GAA competition.

He first played for Munster, his province, in 1929. On that occasion Munster defeated Leinster to win the title. This was the first of three successive Railway Cup medals for ‘Goggles’ and he won his fourth and final medal in 1934.
