Toasting fork, three tanged, made from wire, with extendable handle; possibly made from wire from orange boxes/crates or clothes hangers, Clondagad House, Ballynacally, 1920-1950.
This toasting fork was passed on to the donor who grew up at Clondagad House, Ballynacally. They were made by a member of the travelling community by from wire, possibly from orange boxes/crates or clothes hangers.
They were used to make toast in front of a range, or in front of an open fire, with tea. It was a social activity as people liked their toast done differently and bread was an essential part of afternoon tea at 4pm at the house.
