Trophy, pewter oval shaped container with lid and two handles, Tradaree Athletics, Newmarket-on-Fergus.

Metal trophy in the form of an oval shaped container with two handles and four legs, inscribed on the external base, decorative design on the four panels making up the container and on the lid and base edge. The metal is pewter and was originally silver plated, traces of which exist on base and interior of lid. The handles at the side consist of rings held in the open mouth of goats mouths. Engraved on base “Thradaree Amateur Athletic Club Sports 1878 440 yds flat-handicap won by James J. Hynes from scratch”. Tradaree is near Newmarket-on-Fergus.

The trophy was presented as a prize by the Tradaree Amateur Athletics Sports Club in 1878. It was found in the UK at a car boot sale at a local church, purchased and sent to Clare Museum.
